Happiness

imaginative girl
Today was the Best Day. First of all, for the first day in a week, it wasn't a work day. (I really like my freelance work, but until I hit my next deadline, I'll continue to be on a 6-days-a-week work schedule, so I really cherish each day off.)

I woke up, got MrD ready for school - and then I headed out to socialize with other adults. Whoa! :)

It was a great morning, spent with fun, interesting, smart women, all mums of young kids, and all of them, by wonderful coincidence, women I have lots in common with. We laughed and talked and ate baked goods, and I felt about ten times lighter by the time I left to pick up MrD from school.

And when we got home? We had leftover chocolate cupcakes!* Honestly, could life get any better?

Well, apparently, yes. Because later this afternoon, as I was sitting in a big comfy chair reading a book to MrD...I felt the baby kick inside my belly, for the very first time ever. It was a moment of total joy and wonder, and I got to share it with MrD.

Sometimes I let morning sickness and exhaustion bleed into my attitude, making me feel Eeyore-like and pessimistic, ignoring all the good things around me...but today I really, truly felt such appreciation for the happiness in my life.

And I wanted to save it here, with you guys.

What have been your happiest moments, big or small, lately?

_____________

*I experimented yesterday with this (vegan, but enthusiastically recommended by a non-vegan I know) chocolate cupcake recipe...and Oh. My. God. Total Chocolate Bliss! I didn't have the ingredients for the mousse topping, but I ended up glad that I hadn't - there was absolutely no need for any topping, and I'll never bother with one in future. The cupcakes on their own are mouthwateringly rich, moist, chocolatey and delicious - by far the best dessert I've ever made myself. And they were easy! (And fast!)

This was a very dangerous discovery for me to make.

(And for anyone who's thinking of making it, I substituted oat milk for soy milk and sunflower oil for canola oil, and I was VERY happy with the results! So I wouldn't worry too much about fudging the ingredients.)

Indeed, a wonderful day, and I love the narrative arc: I was thinking what can top these cupcakes, and ... ah, that little kick. Yes. Blissful sigh.

That kick was just about the only thing that could have topped the cupcakes. :)

awww, sounds like a wonderful day!
Not much big happiness lately (tired from day job), but I think I might have solved my novel's problems...

Sounds like you had a perfect day. I love it when days like that come along. Two days ago I finally, finally, finally finished a solid draft of a middle grade novel that I've been struggling with forever. Now, that's happiness!
